The Master Plan
In February 2008 LandDesign, Inc delivered its final version of the Downtown Monroe Master Plan. This plan, which is essentially a blueprint for the revitalization of Downtown Monroe, is the culmination of nearly eight months of research, public hearings, and planning conducted by LandDesign in cooperation with city officials, staff, and the Downtown Advisory Committee.
Following the release of the plan, the city hired Brian Borne to serve as our Downtown Director. It is his responsibility to oversee the implementation of the Master Plan. The purpose of the plan is to provide clear direction for restoring Downtown Monroe to its former position as a center for residence, commerce, arts, and employment. To that end, the plan includes changes to traffic patterns, green way and open spaces, and economic incentives for both new development and rehabilitation of existing structures.
Below you’ll find links to several documents including the Monroe Master Plan in itself, a summary brochure, and several study maps. The documents are in PDF format and require a PDF reader to view. While Adobe Acrobat is the standard PDF reader, I highly recommend FoxIt PDF reader as a free (and faster) alternative.
